Originally the "Hinchinbrooke District Number 3" schoolhouse, this building was constructed in 1875 as a one-room country schoolhouse which helped to educate children along the Gore Road for dozens of years. The current owners tastefully transformed it into the charming two-storey home as it is today.
In the late 1940s the property was sold by the School Board
and the schoolhouse was raised and turned, excavated
underneath to pour a concrete basement for the house. The
front and back porches were also added at around that time.
That family lived in the house until around 2003.
The house was purchased in 2004 by the current owners and a
complete overhaul was done on the inside and outside of the
house and property. The interior was gutted from the floor
to the roof with the original schoolhouse walls left on the
main floor for country character. All plumbing was redone
including a new hot water tank (replaced in 2018), pressure
tank, central vacuum system, and water softener.
Electrical was completely redone with a 200-amp panel. The
main floor ceiling was lowered and a second floor was added
with 3 bedrooms and a full bath room with pine plank
floors. The exterior of the house was stripped to the
original skeleton of the schoolhouse and was insulated with
urethane spray-foam on the complete outside of the house in
order to maintain the interior schoolhouse walls. A steel
roof and all new PVC energy-efficient windows were also
added. Pine board and batten siding was installed to
complement the country style exterior.
